What exactly is the meaning of Black Lives Matter?

Black Lives Matter or the #BlackLivesMatter was a campaign birthed in the summer of 2013 after the wrongful death of Trayvon Martin and the acquittal of his killer George Zimmerman. Black Lives Matter is an African American community influenced international activist movement.

Although it was originally created to bring attention to the injustice behind the brutal killing of African Americans unwarrantedly by police authority, the campaign has now turned into a movement of African American endearment that is not only growing day by day but is building momentum by the day.

With the help of occasional live protests, an endless medium of communication through social media and endorsements of silent support throughout the celebrity community (such as Beyonce’s suer bowl halftime performance), the movement has managed to make itself a topic of household conversation all the while bringing the necessary attention to the cause of the problem.

This social issue can only be described as the systemized deprivation of basic human rights and dignity of African Americans but as the hashtag brings attention to the cause it also shines a light on the purpose as well, which can be most simply depicted as the rebirth of the liberation movement within the black community.

Except this time we are not just urged to live, love and buy black but to be informed, aware and supportive of all castes of our community from disabled to transgender. Black lives matter is a revitalization of the spirit of the liberation movement, that was once the melding center point of a disadvantaged community.

It is now not only a mantra used to expose on the mistreatment of people of color in these times and age but also serves as a cry to the black community to stand together once more in order to demand our rights as not just people of color but human beings all the while reinforcing the spirit of nationalism that was once a prevalent and necessary component of survival for our community.
